Praying the Seventh Day of Christmas:
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree
Heavenly Father,
As I reflect on the meaning behind the seven swans a-swimming, I’m reminded of the beauty and grace these beautiful creatures display as they almost seem to glide across the water with such grace and effortlessly. Their elegance mirrors the transforming work of Your Holy Spirit within us. We think it’s all the things we are doing outwardly, when, in reality, You are at work so gently within us.
In Christian symbolism, the seven swans represent the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit—wisdom, understanding, counsel, courage, knowledge, devotion, and reverence for You. These gifts shape and strengthen the life of every believer—mine included—helping us grow into the good and holy people you’ve called us to be.
Lord, just as swans move smoothly across the surface while paddling with strength beneath; help me to live with outward grace and inward perseverance. May Your Spirit work within me, forming wisdom in my decisions, graciousness in my relationships, courage in my challenges, and devotion in my worship.
Father, may these spiritual gifts flow through my life like swans across still waters—steady, purposeful and gracious in their movement. As I celebrate this season, remind me that Your Spirit is always at work, guiding, strengthening, and shaping me into the likeness of Christ. None of His work or time with me is ever unfruitful.
Thank You for the gifts You give so graciously. May they not only transform my heart but also bless those around me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen

Out of the stump of David’s family[a] will grow a shoot—
yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root.
2 And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.—Isaiah 11:2-2 (NLT)
