Holy God and Lord, on this night when You were beaten and bruised, Your character assassinated, and falsely accused, as You humbled Yourself and submitted Your power under the hands of Your enemies, my heart is saddened and heavy. For my sins You suffered. For my sake You stayed silent. For my eternity and reconciliation with the Father in heaven You decided to die instead defend Yourself, and rebuke Your accusers. Tonight I am even more humbled and saddened that my sins needed You to give Your life.
I am reminded by the words of the apostle Paul who called himself ‘Chief of Sinners’ that I too own this title. As I look over my life through the eyes of truth, I know that I have forgotten more of my sins and transgressions than I can remember; praise God You have forgotten too; praise God You do not accuse nor condemn me, but You have taken my shame and my guilt, redeemed, restored, and clothed me in Your righteousness!
Forgive me Lord, for my short memory and for thinking I have always been as faithful, peaceful, joyful, patient, decent, good, kind-hearted, generous, loving and forgiving as I am today! It is only by and through Your longsuffering and patience with me, only because of the Spirit’s work and ministry in me that has transformed me from my former self and life.
I am still a work in progress and what I will be when You are finished with me is only known to You. Grant me strength and joy to continue my journey in Your care for You have promised I will be glorious; I will be made perfect; I will be completely good, and perfectly faithful.
Thank You for the Cross, Lord, thank You for the price You paid! It is because of Your selflessness and sacrifice that I can close my eyes and have the assurance of the Father’s love at the end of each day, that He does not turn away or condemn me, but sings over me, even in my sleep. In Jesus’ name. Amen
A Promsie to Remember at the Close of Day:
I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek—Romans 1:16
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief—I Timothy 1:15
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God—I Corinthians 1:18
So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God—2 Timothy 1:8
