Read Luke 7:11-17
The widow of Nain is an important figure in the New Testament. Her story is found only in the Gospel of Luke. Jesus raised her son from the dead and during his burial ceremony Jesus illustrates compassion and displays divine authority over death. It's not a long story; only a handful of verses, yet it's impactful.
As you read about this woman who's only identified as "the widow of Nain, you can consider what Jesus did. Consider how Jeus didn't do this miracle behind closed doors. He didn't tell those present to be quiet and not tell anyone about what they witnessed, like He did many others. Instead, Jesus openly gives this woman her life back. She went from not knowing what her future held, to be shown her efforts would pay off.
Food for Thought:
Why do you think Jesus paused and addressed this woman's pain?
Have you ever felt Jesus enter your pain? When and how?
Jot down the details you notice in this story.
What has life stripped away from you?
What has Jesus restored to you?
